If you love climbing at Climb UP, try taking your climbing outdoors with an experienced climbing guide and instructor. With decades of experience climbing and instructing on a variety of rock types, over various terrain, and with multiple types of climbing including top-roping, anchor systems, bouldering, self-rescue, lead climbing, rappelling, you're sure to get the most out of a trip outside.

Our Fall Dates begin in September and continue into the Winter months until it gets way too cold to climb. We prefer to take trips on Fridays to reduce impact in the Refuge but will guide on the weekend or during the week as well.

Unless otherwise specified, our trips generally take place in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Southwest Oklahoma. However, we enjoy introducing climbers to other areas in Oklahoma like Chandler Park in Tulsa, OK. We have also guided in Arkansas, Texas and Colorado.

Outdoor Class Descriptions

Introduction to Rock Climbing

The Introduction to Rock Climbing course is designed for people who have little or no experience in rock climbing. The course is ideal for those who are interested and want to experience the thrill of rock climbing in a beautiful natural setting. We will introduce climbing equipment, belaying, and climbing movement. By the end of the course, participants should feel comfortable climbing with experienced friends and prepared to take the next steps in rock climbing. Duration: 1 day

Introduction to Traditional ("Trad") Climbing

This course will teach the difference between active and passive gear, gear placements, anchor building, knot tying, belaying, cleaning (gear retrieval), traditional climbing technique, and discussion of what gear to purchase (and how it should properly fit), and gear maintenance.

Leave No Trace

Climb Up practices and teaches Leave No Trace (LNT) outdoor ethics and takes a minimal impact approach to climbing. Minimal impact includes such things as: keeping base sites localized to durable surfaces, minimizing the use of chalk, keeping group size low, keeping noise levels low, staying on designated trails, maintaining the rock environment for future generations, avoiding sensitive habitats and nesting sites, packing out what is packed in, using facilities and disposing of human waste properly.
